Our most abundant species. The sapwood is ivory white with a slight reddish-brown tinge. The heartwood is light brown to dark tan. Dense, close-grained and hard-fibered, it is the preferred choice for a sports floor but is equally at home in the residential setting. It's excellent working properties make it suitable for almost any project.
The pronounced grain and light pink to dark reddish colour of Red Oak make this the most popular flooring for homes in North America. The grain of Red Oak is slightly coarser and more porous than White Oak. Oak is heavy, hard and stiff with a high shock resistance.
This is the Oak of choice for Great Britain and Europe, however the pleasing amber tone of White Oak is gaining popularity here in Canada. Both Oaks finish well and are renowned for toughness and durability.
The pronounced, open-grain pattern is similar to red oak. The sapwood is light, creamy white and the heartwood is light to dark brown. Although not a common flooring, Ash is durable and makes an appealing floor, light in colour.
Rich and prestigious, Cherry makes a statement of exclusive elegance for the home, office or chic boutique. The heartwood ranges from deep rich red to reddish brown. The sapwood is pale white to creamy brown. Moderately hard, Cherry is strong and stiff but usually considered too soft for a high traffic floor.
