Stanley Knight Limited has obtained the chain-of-custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) which means that we provide certified wood flooring to our cutomers. We maintain this certification through an annual audit process. For more information please visit their website at www.fsccanada.org.
In the first years of our business Stanley Knight Limited acquired farms which included hardwood bushlots and used them to supply logs for a sawmill which was part of our manufacturing process. Open areas on the farms were planted with softwoods and today we find ourselves managing a mix of softwood plantations and hardwood bushlots that have been in our care for about fifty years.
During this period Stanley Knight Limited has harvested its woodlots using a selective process where periodically we will use professional foresters to mark our trees for those that are diseased or deformed as well as some that are mature and ready for harvest. We leave a healthy mix of small diameter and mature trees to continue to grow, along with trees that are used by wildlife for food and shelter.
We recognize the environmental contribution of our woodlots to clean air and clean water and believe that our practice of selective harvesting will keep the woodlots growing healthy trees forever.
The wood waste from our flooring production is ground into woodchips and used in a variety of ways: burned to heat our plant and dry lumber in our kilns, reused by others in wood-related products and used as livestock bedding on farms.
